BIRDS

The species shown in the following pages have all been photographed in the British Isles and are ordered by the sequence (prior to 1st Jan 2010) of the list compiled by the British Ornithologists Union Records Committee. I have not separated out photographs of those species which are considered to be rarities but have included them in sequence with the commoner, more widespread and regular species. There are many gaps in the collection but hopefully these will be filled in due course as the opportunities arise! I have always been a birder who photographs birds and not the other way around.

A small selection of photographs of birds taken abroad appear in my Trip Reports.

Photographs taken during the period 2002-2004 were mainly with a Nikon Coolpix 885 digital camera attached to a Kowa TSN 823 telescope  although since 2005 I have used a Swarovski ATS HD 80 telescope. In addition, I have also used a Panasonic Lumix FZ7 camera for some bird photography between January 2007 - June 2008 which was then upgraded to an FZ18. In late May 2009 I switched to a Nikon Coolpix P6000 for digiscoping.

I have also experimented with using the video settings on both the Coolpix (digi-scoping) and the Lumix. The results have been fairly acceptable and I have posted short clips of some of the more interesting species.
